Mythic Sprite Hours (Aug 15): Last Shot at Grim & Zero Point

Grim Reaper Sprite, one of two Mythics with boosted appearance rates during Mythic Sprite Hours

On August 15, 2026, Fortnite ran the 'Unstable' story moment (2 PM ET): the hacker Geno hijacked the Zero Point Stabilizer, and the Zero Point was replaced by a giant game cartridge — the 'Glitch Zone' — teasing Season 4. Two Mythic Sprite Hours windows accompany it (2–4 PM and 9–11 PM ET), boosting Mythic rates with an extra boost for base Grim and Zero Point.

Epic scheduled one final Season 3 story event before Runners ends on August 19: the 'Unstable' story moment on Saturday, August 15, paired with two Mythic Sprite Hours sessions. For collectors, the story beat is the sideshow — the headline is that base Grim and Zero Point, the two Mythics that barely exist in the loot pool, get an explicit appearance boost for four hours total.

What happened at the story moment (updated after the event)

The event fired at 2 PM ET and ran about four minutes: Dr. Slone attempted to stabilize the fractured Zero Point, but a hacker calling themselves Geno hijacked the Stabilizer mid-sequence — the beam corrupted into pixels and in-game screens flooded with spam ads before crashing out. When it ended, the Zero Point itself was gone: in its place sits a giant game cartridge displaying Sonic, Dr. Eggman, Pac-Man, Mega Man and Tetris — the area is now labelled the 'Glitch Zone' and stays on the map until Season 3 ends. It's the most direct tease yet of Season 4 'Override' and its gaming-legends theme. If you missed the moment live, the cartridge is still there to visit.

Event timeline (August 15, all times ET)

  • 1:30 PM — all damage at the Zero Point Stabilizer is reduced.
  • 1:55 PM — all damage is disabled; head to the Zero Point Stabilizer.
  • 2:00 PM — the 'Unstable' story moment begins (damage returns right after it ends).
  • 2:00–4:00 PM — first Mythic Sprite Hours window.
  • 9:00–11:00 PM — second Mythic Sprite Hours window.

What Mythic Sprite Hours changes

  • Mythic Sprites appear more often — with an extra boost for the base Grim and Zero Point Sprites.
  • Everyone starts each match with Seven Sliders and a Self-Revive Device.
  • Every location on the island offers higher-quality loot.
  • Extracting a Sprite fully heals you and grants the Slap effect — so extraction runs are safer and faster than normal.

Why this matters: Grim and Zero Point are normally near-impossible drops

Zero Point sits at 0% in the chest pool — outside this event, summoning it for 6,750 Dust is the only way in. Grim is a 0.15% Sprite Chest drop. These two windows are the only time all season Epic has boosted their appearance, which makes August 15 the single best collecting session of the final week. If either is missing from your checklist, plan your evening around it.

How to play the two windows

  • Land at chest-dense POIs and open every Sprite Chest and Relic Chest — Mythic rates are up across the board, not just for Grim and Zero Point.
  • Extract everything you find immediately: the full heal plus Slap on extraction removes the usual risk of channeling.
  • Duplicates are still worth extracting — but spend the Dust before August 19, because Epic has confirmed Dust and Gizmos reset when the season ends.
  • If you still need mastery counts for a Quack threshold, the boosted spawn rates make this the fastest mastery session of the season too.

After the 11 PM window closes, the story events are done — but the collecting calendar isn't. Sprite Spree Week continues with an all-day Power Hour each remaining day (Galaxy Aug 16, Holo Aug 17, Cube Aug 18, Gem Aug 19) plus quests that hand out John Wick, Zero Point and Gem Zero Point for free. Then the season flips on August 19, with Season 4 'Override' launching August 20.

FAQ

When is the Fortnite Unstable event?+

Saturday, August 15, 2026 at 2 PM ET (6 PM UTC) at the Zero Point Stabilizer in Battle Royale. Damage is disabled from 1:55 PM ET so everyone can watch.

What do Mythic Sprite Hours do?+

During 2–4 PM and 9–11 PM ET on August 15, Mythic Sprites appear more often (with an extra boost for base Grim and Zero Point), everyone starts with Seven Sliders and a Self-Revive Device, all locations give higher-quality loot, and extracting a Sprite fully heals you and grants the Slap effect.

Can I find the Zero Point Sprite in a chest during the event?+

Epic says base Grim and Zero Point get an extra appearance boost during the two Mythic Sprite Hours windows — the only boost they've had all season. Outside those windows, Zero Point stays out of the chest pool and is summon-only at 6,750 Dust.

What replaced the Zero Point after the Unstable event?+

A giant game cartridge — the area is now called the Glitch Zone — displaying Sonic, Dr. Eggman, Pac-Man, Mega Man and Tetris as a Season 4 'Override' tease. It stays on the map until Chapter 7 Season 3 ends on August 19, 2026.

Is this the last Season 3 Sprite event?+

It's the last story moment, but not the last boost: Sprite Spree Week runs through August 19 with an all-day Power Hour each day (Galaxy, Holo, Cube, then Gem) and quests that award John Wick, Zero Point and Gem Zero Point Sprites for free.
